      High Interest in India's First Utility-Scale Solar-Plus-Storage Tender

      India’s first grid-scale solar-plus-storage tender from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has received very strong interest with a total of 13 developers submitting bids. The tender called for 5MW/2.5MWh battery enery storage systems to be added to two separate solar projects of 50MW each in the Kadapa Solar Park. A SECI document seen by Energy-Storage.News showed that the storage systems shall support the grid at rated power output for 30 minutes, with a minimum cycle life of 5,000 cycles and a response time of no more than one second.

      The UK has a pipeline of 2.3GW of commercial and industrial (C&I) battery-based energy storage projects, with many developers already looking to ‘stack’ revenues through providing multiple services, a new report has found. Many of these developers are the same names that have been behind the rapid growth in utility-scale renewables that the country has seen over the past few years, including Anesco, Low Carbon and Green Hedge Energy, according to the UK Battery Storage Project Database, produced by the market research division of Energy-Storage.News’ publisher, Solar Media.

      Ameresco to Build Renewable-Powered Microgrid for US Marine Corps

      Ameresco will build a renewable-powered microgrid at a Marine Corp facility in Parris Island, South Carolina. The project at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) includes 6.7MW of PV generation, a 3.5MW combined heat and power facility and a 8MWh battery storage system. A US$91.1 million Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) has been put in place to fund Ameresco’s engineering, construction and operation works. The ESPC uses the electricity bill savings delivered by the system to pay down its cost. This is essentially cost-neutral for the client.

      China Announced Nearly 600MW of Energy Storage in Q3 2016

      China’s deployment of energy storage looks set to continue an upward trajectory, with almost 600MW in the pipeline as of the third quarter this year. According to figures released by the China Energy Storage Alliance (CNESA), 14 new projects were announced in Q3 2016 totalling 587MW. This includes projects that are in planning stages, under construction and that have gone online in the quarter. This appears to represent a significant boost to the sector, and is a vast 586% increase on the same period of last year. Up until the beginning of the quarter, CNESA found, 170.6MW of energy storage was in operation in the country.

Surender Raina, general manager, REDG, NTPC, told PV Tech that the firm has floated two tenders on South Andaman, one of 8MW at Chidiyatapu and another 17MW PV project located at Manglutan, which will both have storage added. However the storage capacity will be tendered separately and the amount of capacity will be specified within the tender when it comes out. The 8MW were tendered on 8 October this year.
