Origin to Build 5MW Virtual Power Plant in Victoria, from Rooftop Solar and Storage

Origin Energy has revealed plans to establish what it says will be Victoria’s largest virtual power plant – a $20 million cloud-based platform that will tap around 5MW of the battery-stored solar power of up to 650 customers during periods of peak power demand. The $20 million project has the backing of the state Labor government, with $4.5 million in funding announced on Wednesday, as part of its broader investment in microgrid technology in the state.

Battery Storage to be "Standard" in New-Build Houses Within Years

Solar and battery storage will be included as a standard feature in all newly built houses in Australia within just a few years’ time, a key solar and building industry player has predicted. CSR Bradford – whose NSW-based company started in insulation more than 80 years ago, and has since expanded into a broader range of energy saving building materials, as well as solar and storage through Bradford Solar – is an accredited Tesla Powerwall reseller, and has been watching the growth of the battery storage market closely over the past few years.

WA Farm Taps Vanadium Flow Battery Storage, Solar – an Australian First

A Western Australian farm near Busselton that has installed solar and battery storage to avoid paying for a new connection to the grid, has chosen a vanadium redox flow battery for the project, in what is believed to be a first for Australia. The battery – a 100kWh CellCube built in Austria by Gildemeister and installed by Australian Vanadium Limited (AVL) subsidiary VSUN – will store the energy from a 15kW solar PV system, which the property’s owners hope will make them 90 per cent energy self-sufficient.
