      Saft Supplies Batteries to 300 MW Offshore Wind Farm of E.on

      French group Saft has clinched a deal to supply its Uptimax nickel battery systems at the Amrumbank West offshore wind farm of German energy group E.on SE. The 302 MW wind farm, which has been inaugurated recently, is located about 40 km from Helgoland, an island off the coast of Germany in the North Sea. It can supply about 300,000 households with renewable energy while helping to reduce CO2 emissions by 740,000 metric tons per year, the developer says.

      June 23 - The US Department of Energy (DOE) will provide almost USD 16 million (EUR 14m) in funds to help National Laboratories bring “promising energy technologies” to the market. The list includes 54 projects for renewables, nuclear energy, fuel cells, batteries and other energy technologies, by 12 national labs. They will partner with 52 private-sector firms. The Argonne National Laboratory, for example, will receive USD 600,000 for the “Application of Resin-Wafer Electrode Ionization Technology in Biorefineries” project.

      February 29 - EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the renewables arm of French energy group EDF SA (EPA:EDF), plans to launch a product combining rooftop solar panels with lithium-ion battery storage by the end of the year, French industry news website Usinenouvelle.com reports. Similar to the Tesla-SolarCity offer, which combines the Powerwalls batteries of Tesla with residential solar systems, EDF roll out to market its own combined photovoltaics/battery product by the end of the this year, CEO Antoine Cahuzac told journalist at a news conference to present the opening of a 20 MW energy storage facility in the US.

      French group Saft today announced its wholly-owned subsidiary Tadiran Batteries has won a multi-million euro contract to supply rechargeable energy packs to an Israel-based solar power project of BrightSource Energy Inc. Under the contract, Tadiran, which specialises in the development of lithium batteries for industrial use, will provide rechargeable energy packs to power more than 50,000 controllable mirrors – called heliostats which are being deployed at the Ashalim solar thermal power station, located in the Israeli desert.
