Statement from ESA CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman on Passage Of FY21 Energy & Water Budget by House Appropriations Committee

“The U.S. Energy Storage Association applauds the House Appropriations Committee for approving FY 2021 investments to build jobs in the energy storage industry while driving innovation and ensuring greater grid resilience,” said ESA CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman. “The $1.3 billion legislation passed today would invest in an unprecedented level of storage technology demonstrations as outlined in the bipartisan Better Energy Storage Technology (BEST) Act; it would jumpstart new U.S. manufacturing capacity for globally competitive energy storage technologies; and it would help drive economic recovery through energy storage deployments to provide much-needed resilience to our electric system. We also commend the Committee for its foresight in fully funding construction of the Department of Energy’s proposed Grid Storage Launchpad facility at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, which will accelerate the commercial capabilities of American energy storage companies to meet the needs of a cleaner, more resilient electric system.”
