Sault Energy Storage Plant Ready to Launch

Sault Ste. Marie will soon have an energy storage system online that will allow the province's Independent Electricity System Operator a chance to study new technology designed to make the power grid more efficient and cheaper. Convergent Energy has completed construction on its 7MW energy storage project, located on PUC property in the city's east end at Trunk and McNabb streets adjacent to one of its transmission substations. A seven megawatt battery project would be equivalent to the storage of about 70,000 light bulbs. The project can balance 60 megawatts of photovoltaic solar capacity and 150 megawatts of peak load at the end of a 115 kV radical circuit.
